    It occurred to me in my junior year of high school. I got my first letter from a big college. I still have that letter to this day - a letter from Indiana.


    Changing your role, once you get to college, is a big part of maturing and becoming a better player. At first, it was kind of hard doing it. But I realized for us to win, I had to play my role. I had to change everything mentally.

Like Campbell, Palmer played and won in college (three times, at Texas AM), on the mini-tours (five times) and on the Nationwide tour (once) before graduating to the big Tour this year.     It's a tremendous program. I've been here for 11 years and we've seen some of the youngsters who have come through the program and graduated college. It's very successful. It's kind of neat to see kids at this age, in the eighth grade, ready to embark into their high school years and be able to feel that the Padres have had something to do with it, which can lead to very long and successful careers.




    I was trying to be too good too early, and you can't do that at this level. Everything is faster and quicker and the pitching is a lot better in college. I'm finally started to see the ball better and was able to hit hard a few times.
