Lance Randall Quotes (30 Quotes)

They missed the bulk of the recruiting period. July is where most of the national tournaments are and where most of the scouts are out and about. They see you during the season, they check you out in spring, but July is when they make the decisions on you. July is decision-making time for college coaches.

We don't look at individual accolades. We measure our successes in how our teams fare and I think that speaks volumes about Andy Polka.

I would like to be able to have more preparation time as a coach. The less prep time you have the more you leave the game to chance. The more likely an underdog is going to win that sectional final or a team less drilled in scouting and fundamentals might get through if you have less time to prep.

At about Christmas time we saw some different tapes and thought Memorial was the best team in the state. I thought they had some great chemistry and some really good pieces of the puzzle.

This is something you wouldn't trade for anything. It's an unbelievable way to win a basketball game. Things like this may happen all the time on different levels, but there are so many games that you could go a lifetime and never have it happen to you.

Our front line is getting the respect and it's certainly well-deserved. But our guards provide so much toughness and so many crucial baskets at key times. They knock down open shots, they provide room for Andy. They are on the floor for loose balls, charges, it's a great group.

There was nothing too fancy about this Let's get the ball to Andy. They had a heck of a time containing Andy.

I remember hugging my dad afterwards and him crying. I remember 'What a feeling associated with victory.' It's the pinnacle of what you do. Boy, it made me want to be a basketball player for my dad in the worst way possible.

You can never speculate on what will help or hurt. At this stage, you just want to try and win a basketball game. I would never encourage a team to lose a basketball game and we're just too dang competitive. I don't want to lose.

They get over it after a while. They are probably so sick of hearing our voices, I'm sure they'd enjoy some down time.

We don't talk about specifics as to what shot we should or shouldn't take. We talk about attacking and we wanted to penetrate their pressure defense.

Austin Meier has to be one of the smartest, toughest fourth-quarter players in the state. He just makes play after play down the stretch. His decision-making and timeliness on big plays on both ends have been lifesaving for us.

It was a decision that was made at my dad's funeral, basically.

We knew we had to mix up some defenses. I thought we were very effective for the most part in the 2-3 (zone), and it made a big difference for us going away.

The skip pass was there all night. We weren't getting the ball across and we weren't knocking them down.

We had a little more motivation than some of the other teams in the tournament. Certainly everyone wants to win. We had dreams. I know others had dreams too. But our dreams are awfully deep-rooted. This one is pretty special for us.

It's the story of this season. We've had guys that have stepped up from a lot of different spots and Brady is a guy that is a very talented basketball player and he's getting his opportunity to show everybody else what we already knew about him.

That's unusual for us. I like to see more balance. But I'll take where we're at.

Top to bottom, it's been terrific all year long. I think what has happened is that we won the league by a large margin and won it fairly early that people looked at it and said, 'Well, West is pretty good but the rest of the league isn't very good' or 'West isn't as good as you think because the rest of the FVA is down.' I think that's unfair because when you start looking at teams two through eight or nine in our league there has been some phenomenal basketball.

I thought we out-toughed them by playing North's game. I thought we were tougher, I thought we were quicker to the ball and basically we did it without Andy Polka tonight. Other guys had big games. This is a big-game team.

His skills are excellent. I'm really impressed with his decision-making out there.

That was his first game ever wearing contacts. He was 4-for-13 from inside the paint and 1-from-1 from outside we think that maybe they over-prescribed him. He must have 20-0 vision.

It's not a concern. We've had great balance all year. The rest of our guys have stepped up on different nights. We have great toughness and a lot of heart, as you've seen the last two nights.

He's had a very good high school career by all measures and I know he was motivated by getting us down to Madison. The Fox Valley has really enjoyed watching these guys the last year or two ... they're a fun group to watch.

I don't think Andy has anything to prove to anyone. He's as good of a post player as there is in the state. He's productive on the offensive end, he's dominating on the defensive glass. I think he's the best all-around post player in the state.

Because of the level of domination that we've had in the FVA in the last few years or in the last nine years, I don't want these guys to take it for granted. It is a really special thing for us to go through the league the way we did this year.

He did a nice job of taking his time. He took two dribbles and just let it fly.

Tim took us on our shoulders and really came out hot. Hes a heck of an offensive player. He does a bit of everything on the offensive end. I dont know if there is more of a complete basketball player in the state.

My job is not just a basketball coach. I think that I'm more of a leader and a teacher and I'm trying to make young men out of them. Part of their acceptance or part of their realization of the end is part of maturation process.

I'm impressed with their guard play. And their decision-making and their unselfish offensive style.
