    Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world. This hinders its ability to develop or solve its own problems. I will be appreciated and I will have a bigger voice (when I return). Coming to USD has already started to stabilize and narrow my career as an educator. I will be able to share the knowledge with many people in Tanzania who want to take up the challenges of teaching.

    My family doesn't like the distance. They can't visit me, and I cannot immediately visit them. They also fear I will marry or become a spoiled American, like in the movies.

    There are a lot of worries in Africa. Many people die of HIV, and there is a lot of theft and rape. There is more peace here. People are so friendly and supportive here. There is much friendship and people are not suspicious of one another.

    The biggest challenge in embracing a new culture is letting go of my previous values and welcoming new ones. Acceptance of another culture involves curiosity and taking risks.
