Reason can never be popular. Passions and feelings may become popular, but reason will always remain the sole property of a few eminent individuals.
Whenever I hear people talking about liberal ideas, I am always astounded that men should love to fool themselves with empty sounds. An idea should never be liberal it must be vigorous, positive, and without loose ends so that it may fulfill its divine mission and be productive. The proper place for liberality is in the realm of the emotions.
There is nothing in the world more pitiable than an irresolute man, oscillating between two feelings, who would willingly unite the two and who does not perceive that nothing can unite them
And songs that breath'd a deep feeling,
A teacher who can arouse a feeling for one single good action, for one single good poem, accomplishes more than he who fills our memory with rows of natural objects, classified with name and form.
Do not give in too much to feelings. A overly sensitive heart is an unhappy possession on this shaky earth.
