    Unfortunately, school systems are more often concerned with how their retention numbers look instead of whether these children can read well enough to succeed. Consequently, schools have found loopholes in the law, and legislators need to plug those holes. Nothing does a child a greater disservice than promoting him when he is lacking the basic skills to succeed.

    There are no second chances on this or we could see our schools out of control.

    On our campuses where there is no tolerance for it, we have no problem. Unfortunately, looking at the results, there were some campuses far worse than others.

    A teacher's role is to be informative, but not persuasive. They need to talk to students. They need to make sure they know the issues, but like any other political issue, their role is not to express a specific opinion. A teacher is a citizen. A teacher has every right to on their own time be as public as they want, no matter how popular or unpopular their views.
