Thomas Edison devoted ten years and all of his money to developing the nickel alkaline storage battery at a time when he was almost penniless. Through that period of time, his record and film production company was supporting the storage battery effort. Then one night the terrifying cry of 'Fire' echoed through the film plant. Spontaneous combustion had ignited some chemicals. Within moments all of the packaging compounds, celluloid for records, film, and other flammable goods had gone up in flames. Fire companies from eight towns arrived, but the heat was so intense and the water pressure so low that the fire hoses had no effect. Edison was sixty-seven years old - no age to begin anew. His daughter was frantic, wondering if he was safe, if his spirit was broken, how he would handle such a crisis at his age. She saw him running toward her. He spoke first. He said, 'Where's your mother Go get her. Tell her to get her friends. They'll never see another fire like this as long as they live.' At five-thirty the next morning, with the fire barely under control, he called his employees together and announced, 'We're rebuilding.' One man was told to lease all the machine shops in the area, another to obtain a wrecking crane from the Erie Railroad Company. Then, almost as an afterthought, Edison added, 'Oh, by the way. Anybody know where we can get some money' Virtually everything we now recognize as a Thomas Edison contribution to our lives came after that great disaster.

He was here all the time, hanging out in the locker room and with the players on the field. If James wasn't here, it was like 'Where's James' He was part of this football team.

Reading the people's lips 'Where's the food Where's water' ... They were there for four days. I mean, drop something out of the sky. Fly helicopters over and drop something, whatever you have to do. That's what killed me, man. I'm cried out. I'm just cried out.

It's rare that I actually have a story in my head. I have events or 'what's the next move?' Like, Maggie, 'where's she going to go in this story, where's she going to end up?' Then the story has to fill in the in-between, and that comes as I'm starting it.

We were making careless mistakes that were uncharacteristic of this team. Coach B said, 'Where's the team I've been coaching all year When are they going to show up' We took that to heart.

Last I checked, we didn't have anything in writing. The question is, how do we get these ironclad commitments from developers when they don't know if the stadium is going to get built We're trying to get them to commit to things, and they're saying, 'Where's the stadium We're not negotiating from a position of strength,'

You don't ever say, 'Where's the good place in town' You want to ask somebody on the street, 'Where do you eat' And then you're likely to find the great catfish parlor or barbecue place.

I don't agree with it, but there is something wrong with that. I'm all for wearing suits, even though I don't wear suits. I think jewelry-wise, that's a decision on how we want to spend our money. I feel like people want that. People like the watches, the chains. Even when I go out, when I don't wear it, people ask me, 'Where's the chain at' It's going to be pretty tough to get everybody to stop wearing their 30,000, 40,000 -- maybe more than that -- chains. It's a waste of money if we can't wear it where we want to wear it.

We like the attention, because it brings recognition to the school. When I tell people I go to FAU, people used to say, 'Where's that' But now because of coach Doherty and getting on ESPN2 and all that, they know. We get excited about that because we work as hard as Duke and we want people to see that.
