    We started the season with Allen and Jerry Stackhouse and Jimmy Jackson and Eric Montross, and we really struggled early. We were 6-19. Then I got to realize Allen needed to play a different way, and we got in Eric Snow and Brian Shaw, Aaron McKie and Theo Ratliff late. After the All-Star break, we were about .500. We set up a culture that enabled us to be pretty good from then on. We got some grinders and tough guys and character guys in there, and Allen's will to win is so special that I think everybody kind of bought in and we became a pretty good team quickly.

    He sat down Saturday with Dr. Thomas Gill, medical personnel and Theo. A decision will be made pretty soon, on what's going to happen. He's got some issues this week. His wife's having a baby. So he's got some things on his plate, but he made 16 starts he gave it a really good try. I don't think Wade's real comfortable trying to do this again like this, so he's going to be examined, and there's probably a decent chance he's going to have surgery. So that's kind of where we're at.


    Certainly Theo is a good friend of all of us, and he's worked very closely with these guys in the past. The door has been really ajar for some time, and until Theo goes to work for another baseball organization we'll keep the light on in the window with the possibility of him coming back and helping us.

    We did have a discussion at one point during the off-season about sending more things to Theo, having more a one voice than three or four voices when it came to baseball, baseball players, baseball issues. But it was actually suggested by Larry.

    Theo does comedy now, and he's traveling around the country doing comedy, and I actually just saw him, he's from Louisiana, and I just saw him when I went home to visit my family in Louisiana. I saw his comedy show and he was brilliant.

    He's done a terrific job from day one. Being the general manager of a baseball team is a very difficult job. Theo gives it everything he has in a very determined measure and selfless way. And he does it with great intelligence, discipline, honesty and humility. His record of results speaks for itself.
