So your life was like a sphere's:
One side, all aglow, meets day,
And the other turned away,
Icy-strange and cold appears,
Overhung with starry tears.
So your life was like a sphere's:
One side, all aglow, meets day,
And the other turned away,
Icy-strange and cold appears,
Overhung with starry tears.
Of old sat Freedom on the heights The thunders breaking at her feet Above her shook the starry lights She heard the torrents meet.
Two things awe me most, the starry sky above me and the moral law within me.

In-working, which bids be
The starry pageant and the life of earth?
She would sit by herself in the middle of the old stoe amphitheatre, with the sky's starry vault overhead, and simply listen to the great silence around her.
Now came still evening on, and twilight gray Had in her sober livery all things clad Silence accompany'd for beast and bird, They to their grassy couch, these to their nests, Were slunk, all but the wakeful nightingale She all night long her amorous descant sung Silence was pleas'd.
