    The thing I enjoy most about quiz bowl is that it is both a team and an individual competition. Even though you compete as a team, a whole game can change based on the random knowledge of one person.

Society has tended to find its heroes in the most obvious arenas, and I don't regard that as a healthy thing. We should find our heroes in the bathroom mirror each and every morning.


    College football is the sport where 80, 000 people show up to watch a Poll Bowl, half of them wearing one color, half of them wearing another color. This is important because 80, 000 people wearing any color never filled a stadium to watch a math quiz.

    If we were to do the Second Coming of Christ in color for a full hour, there would be a considerable number of stations which would decline to carry it on the grounds that a Western or a quiz show would be more profitable.
