    The real act of marriage takes place in the heart, not in the ballroom or church or synagogue. It's a choice you make - not just on your wedding day, but over and over again - and that choice is reflected in the way you treat your husband or wife.



    That's certainly what I grew up with-ballet and musical comedy. My mother taught ballroom dancing and, I think, would have liked to have been a dancer herself.     When we're exposed to movie after movie where we see people enjoying themselves on the dance floor, it's only natural for us to look at that and want to emulate it. The other thing is I believe what you have is an environment where we are more susceptible to ballroom dancing.

    In a ballroom, all you can do is dance and eat. We wanted to provide more than just dancing. They ate and danced, and when they got tired, they went out and looked at exhibits. Then they came back and danced some more.

    This particular place in the student center, to name a ballroom, is perfect because she has always tried to make student life better here at Clemson.

    It upset me because I put in over 250 hours of practice for this show ... and just because I had ballet when I was a kid, maybe it helped, but I was never the kind of dancer that I became during this competition, and I had never done ballroom dancing.



    I have never played ballroom dancing before. As a matter of fact, I have strictly avoided it. I think it is a beautiful dance but I don't think it accommodates itself to singles. So many people get competitive over it. I haven't had it, but we're going to have it.

    The best part about designing and working in the ballroom dance business is when a lady who might not feel so good about herself puts on a gown and her eyes light up, ... They feel like a Cinderella at the ball, or they feel like a princess or a bride walking down the aisle. When they look in the mirror, that's the most satisfying part of my job.


    If it was an elective, you'd get twenty girls and three boys doing ballroom dancing. Girls want to dance, boys don't. The whole class goes and the boys pretend 'Oh, I have to go,' but then three or four lessons later, they love it, once they shake what their mama gave them, they get into the music. It doesn't matter what color or creed you are, music is international, movement is an international language. Everybody loves to shake it.
