I'm a big fan of Klosterman, so I thought it was cool. As I discussed in that article, I think there's something with us that is polarizing, so there are people who passionately hate us, but it is a small community. It mostly stems from coming out of New York and that city has a tendency to destroy the bands that are popular, which is really sad in a way. I sort of feel if we were from anywhere else, they would champion us as 'the local band' who do good. However, to be clear, that does not represent New York as a whole. Just a small community of people who are real assholes.

They couldn't do it if we didn't allow it. I feel like someone using your song is different than someone using your persona, like you as an individual. It's a bit different than going on the show. Though I never said we wouldn't go on the show.

The Bravery are new to Miami but were having no problem navigating the city thanks to a certain video game. It's just like 'Vice City,' ... We didn't realize how accurate it is to the video game. We were driving down the street and our drummer started freaking out, 'You don't know how many times I've crashed a Porsche into that building'

It's like when you're in kindergarten, they teach you that thing, like if you catch on fire, you're supposed to 'stop, drop and roll,' and I always thought that was really strange. I guess kids are on fire more in America. I don't really know what that's all about.

What's the most important thing to remember at the VMAs if you're a petulant young rocker Black eyeliner. Think Goth, not gay. The boys from Fall Out Boy were comfortable enough to wear it with panache (lead singer Patrick Stump said he was wearing a jacket he charmed off a waiter in New York). Also some members of The Bravery wore a smoky eye with their punk-meets-prep stovepipe pants and pinstripe skinny jackets. I didn't get to the dry cleaners, ... I was still asleep at 5 p.m. and this guy gesturing to a handler wakes me up and said, I want you to tape this to your taint and come on out.'

The idea of it was I was thinking about how when you're a kid you get this unconditional love and you spend the rest of your life trying to find that, but you can't because everyone's in it for their own thing. It's kind of cynical.
