When all the sun-kissed ways are dark
And silence reigns where laughter ruled,
Walk in the silent ways apart …
And by much reticence be schooled.
Realities are not so kind
As many a lovely thing that’s spun …
Mere simulacrum-fantasies:
Take these to heart and you have won!
For action, you may find repose
No shifting scene can ever shake,
And thrive on fair imaginings …
Not batten hard on life’s lean ache.
When all the sun-kissed ways are dark,
And silence reigns where laughter ruled,
Walk in the quiet paths apart,
And by much reticence be schooled.
