Last the Dakotas clawing a wet sky,
skidding through cloudbase. Touchdown, and then spent.
What are you worthy, or your land? Reply
sails off unheard, outdated argument.
Vistas of twelve o’clock, how more desolate
than ‘thirty-nine glossed thinly in deceit.
Spin squinting mirrors round to deprecate
your service’ tawdry lustre, your regret.
Exile’s come home, his blistered door unlocked
on hallways cobwebbed, all his halfpints cracked
where finer feelings sank their loyal toast.
From room to room far noise of desert stuns,
it will do so. Hear thunder mount big guns
to yawn him out. Better that world be lost.
