From the snowy hills of New Hampshire
oh so snowy this year, not just a dream,
this birthday, this holiday, celebrating
this time, this day, this year,
the words of the preacher,
the world right side up
A step on the journey, clear, discernible,
a president, a man of hope, of change
of color, a moment, Martin smiling,
a new generation, a new time,
not just a dream, a world, forever transformed
where hope won out over fear
who tomorrow rose up out of yesterday
Shaking the dust off their feet, the shackles
forever cast off, the tide of history
on the side of right, of peace
of justice, in God’s time
a new day in this land
a new hope for a people
