Standing on the schoolhouse grounds
waiting for the bus to come
the batter and pushing of the teens
and those just about so
The chatter merging together
in the cocoon of white
Little fragile puffs of snow
falling on my coat, my gloves
Exploding as they land
breaking apart, crystals and lines
bits of the maker’s artistry
perched for a moment on my hands
Melting on the black of my gloves
so starkly in relief
the pure white of the snow
beauty beyond belief
The children too, catching the flakes
their hands, their mouths eager
seeking to gather a bit of the snow
while it remains in its crystalline state
