What blessed yet terrible rain everywhere,
With crosses and signs now streaking the air,
Earth with small streams by the thousand.
Glittering globes of refreshing, cool rain
Thud to the earth in a playful refrain,
Splintering into a thousand small specks.
Droplets that shatter then once more return,
Causing the wavelets to tumble and churn,
Covering all with a thin surface sea.
Old mildewed fences it washes down soundly
Crowns of the trees on their tops are doused roundly,
And down the spines of their trunks it runs cold.
Long rows of knock-kneed willow trees
Now lick their lips quite transported with glee
With thousands of tongues sharply pointed.
Bindweed plants drink up the water so fine
Turn as they………………………
