Driveby friendships
in the inbetween times
the gaps, spaces
between classes, lunch, studying
caught in line, in the hall,
bookstore, library
on the stairs
“how’s it going”
On the fly, off the cuff
“see ya later”
Trite, clipped fluff
vacuous, empty –
Verbal Twinkies
Too self-centered, focused,
Unseeing,
harried
to allow reflection, insight,
real sharing,
compassion, connection
Wondering what
they would do/say
If you actually answered
the throw away
– How’s it going?
with meaning
