I spilled the coins
from my mouth and called it quits
before, you may think of me
as a fraud, a fanatic enemy
of horoscopes. Darkness frightens
me, but friend,
it’s nothing like the light
which can pierce through
taking it all. You can read this:
my fear, my awe, the fall
from light into flame,
my own ignorance finding a path
with words and theology.
My life is the River Arno
approaching the sea.
Am I like the wind that bends
the wheat fields into submission
or am I the stalk of wheat
carving a small place in the air?
