A rain of color, the leaves of the maples,
different kinds, red, sugar, swamp,
all torquing, canting, twisting,
inexorably,
to the warming
the frost and the sun, conspiring
to create a dance of leaves
meandering, lingering in the still air
not so much a fall as a dance to earth
wet leaves, clear crisp morning
a bright sky, polarized light
a rain of red, yellow, orange,
a remnant of green,
showering down
