Man with no limbs swims the English Channel. Starting at 8:00am on Saturday, September 18, 2010 from Folkestone, England in the United Kingdom, Frenchman Philippe Croizon arrived in Calais, France just before 9:30pm as the first quadruple-amputee to successfully swim the 21 miles across the English Channel. Using specially designed flipper-shaped prosthetic legs, the 42-year-old Mr. Croizon, who lost all four limbs following a 1994 work-related electrical accident, had been training rigorously for the previous two years. Speaking of his decision to take on this challenge, Mr. Croizon stated that he was doing it for himself but also in the hope of inspiring others toward overcoming difficulties. Upon completing the swim, Mr. Croizon was elated, saying, “I did it. I’m so happy. I can’t believe it!”
A big bravo, Mr. Philippe Croizon, for your amazing achievement! We are both touched and inspired by your determined spirit as we wish you many more such fulfilling accomplishments that bring joy to your life and the world.
