Shay Doron Quotes (46 Quotes)

In the past, they were just better, honestly. Now they're not better, we're at equal strength and that's why our games have been so close this year.

Every player stepped up so big and in different games and that's what makes our team so dangerous. This team is so deadly at every single position, which is why we won the national championship, because nobody can stop us in any position.

There was no other reason to come back, just basketball. I wanted to win and have fun at the same time.

I love bursting people's expectations. This team does it day in and day out.

When you have two post players like that, as a guard, you just have to love that. It just opens the game for us so much.

It came down to Maryland, Harvard and Duke. Harvard for obvious reasons (it was her parents' first choice), Duke was a team that had not won a national title, but was already there (close to winning one). Maryland gave me a chance to do what nobody else in the country believed we could do. I like doing that, bursting people's expectations.

We just wanted to keep her in front of us. We wanted to keep the ball out of her hands as much as we could and make sure she took contested shots.

We heard them screaming at halftime like they'd already won. I told the girls, 'If you walk out on this court, you better believe we're winning. Otherwise, don't walk out on the court.

That's the thing with us Every different overtime this season, someone else stepped up and tonight it was me. I knew a freshman was guarding me. I don't think anyone can stop me one-on-one in the country, especially not a freshman. And I just took it at her.

I could tell you what each of them ate for breakfast this morning. Both teams know each other very well.

Never did I imagine the mania. I've gotten about 500 phone calls a day, just from Israel, ever since we won. It's a bit overwhelming at times. I just want to eat a peaceful dinner, or I go to sleep and I'll wake up with 17 voice mails. It's tough, because you want to please a lot of people... but I'd rather be there than not be there

We've just kind of instilled a winning mentality, that we can do it and we can play with anyone and it's been there since I've gotten there. So nothing's changed. It's reality and we definitely expected it.

This was a big statement game for us. People were saying we were overrated. They were writing us off. The only losses we have are to Duke and Tennessee.

She pump-faked, my hands were up, all ball hit my hand. That was it.

We feel proud. We worked really hard. But it's a new season now. What we did in the past put us in good position to compete for a championship, but now we have to focus on our future.

I lost the feeling in my arm and I was trying to move it. I didn't want to leave the game. I mean, it's the biggest game of my life. I knew my team needed me on the court.

Well, in the past, obviously I just think Duke was better. And right now, I think that it's pretty even.

They've sacrificed as much as I have. They moved halfway across the world strictly for basketball, for me. It was an accomplishment for me, but for them, too, to see my dreams and my goals come true. My mom told me that they all cried when we won, and I broke down in tears. It was a very emotional time for my family and me.

Crystal obviously is our No. 1 option. Everything goes through her. She spreads the game, especially for the guards and the other post players because she draws so much attention.

It was a leap of faith, but it was an educated leap. We looked at what Coach B had done turning around programs and who was coming in. My parents and my sister and I did a lot of research.

Nothing is guaranteed in basketball. You never know in sports. We could lose in the first round next year, so we can't take this for granted. We have to do everything in our power to win this national championship now.

I heard a long time ago that it's real bad luck for shooters when you stare at their shoes, so I stared at them long and hard.

It came down to our defense. We didn't stop them. It wasn't them it was everything we weren't doing -- hustling back, boxing out, the things that we can control.

It's been discussed, but it's the past. We're pretty happy with the way we're seeded right now.

I lost feeling in my hand for a few seconds.

It was one of the tougher decisions I've ever made. Just leaving absolutely everything we'd built for the last four years for a dream that's basically a dream, you never know if it's going to work out.

Nobody can say they've gone from a 10-18 team in three years to playing in the Final Four.

It feels good, but the win feels better. I haven't been playing well but we've been winning. It would have felt a lot worse if we had been losing. I'm going to keep shooting, regardless of how bad I shot in the past. I'm going to stay confident.

We just kept saying this is exactly what we wanted and what we hoped for and dreamed for when I signed at Maryland. She's going to have a great career ahead of her.

We definitely expected to be here. For us it's not, you know, a quick thing and it's not ahead of schedule. It's right on time.

At this point, we've both seen it all and done it all. We are both battle-tested. In the past, Duke was better. We know we can beat them and we're just as good this year.

Having us come back full force next year is going to be a confidence booster for us.

The reality is our season prepared us so well that if we have to play Duke in the second game, we've done that three times this year. We've played North Carolina and Duke back-to-back that this would be the third time. We're just very prepared for this moment.

If you want to come back here, the next time will be for the Final Four. That feeling was unbelievable. You just want to get back here no matter what.

The tides haven't completely turned, but we're definitely even now. We're not nervous now, and we've proven we can beat them. We know we can beat them, and we know we can play with them.

You would think that little number (No. 2 seed in the region) would mean something, wouldn't you

I don't how the process works. All I know is we get what we get, and you really can't change what happened, so we can't worry about it. We just have to worry about winning.

That was kind of the turning point of our season. We knew we could play with anyone. But when we almost beat the No. 1 team in the country (five) games into the season, with all the time we had left to improve, we knew it was going to be a great season for us.

For me, the coaches were the most important thing at that point. Just meeting them, clicking with them, their energy, their youth.

I know I was recruited perfectly fine. I know my teammates were, as well. That's what happens when you're on top. People always want to knock you down.

We've proven we can beat them. We know we can beat them. The biggest difference is, we're just as good as they are.

Obviously as a point guard, I want to get my teammates the ball first. But I can still score, and I had a lot of opportunities last night and tonight to do that.

Does anyone expect us to win at this point No, except for us. We're the underdogs. Just because of a little number in front of our name doesn't mean every single person in the country doesn't think otherwise.

The game plan was to keep Latta in front of us. She's a great player, but we wanted to contest all of her shots and keep the ball out of her hands as much as possible.

It wasn't an easy choice. I really loved living in Israel. I had made my life for myself there and a life in basketball. Things were really on the rise for me there. It was just very hard to leave.
