Though thy sins and slaveries foul
Overcloud a sunlike soul?
Though thy sins and slaveries foul
Overcloud a sunlike soul?
While daylight held
The sky, the Poet kept mute conference
With his still soul.
Obedient to the light
That shone within his soul, he went, pursuing
The windings of the dell.
And little did the sight disturb her soul.
How will thy soul, cloven to its depth with terror,
Gape like a hell within!
Soul meets soul on lovers' lips.
And every motion, odour, beam and tone,
With that deep music is in unison:
Which is a soul within the soul--they seem
Like echoes of an antenatal dream.
