    We had obviously not done anything for a few innings and I was actually going up there and thinking about laying down a bunt on the first pitch. Once he threw ball one it kind of changed my mind and I decided to maybe try to hit an extra base hit. I figured being ahead in the count, maybe I was going to get a fastball. Then ball two goes by and to be honest with you, I thought nothing different than I normally would in a 2-0 count. (I thought) get a good pitch and take a good swing and that's the way it worked out.

    I wasn't sore today, so I'll give it a shot, ... I have a full range of motion.

    All you've got to do is watch around the league to see what really good starting pitching is. You watch other games and pitchers are coming out in the fourth, or the third, or the fifth. We've had such good starting pitching and production throughout our lineup. That's a really good formula for wins.

    It's neat. Sometimes you try to resist the temptation of thinking you've heard all the stories and tuning people out, because you'll hear some pretty unique stories.     I'm just going to out there, relax, make the plays that I'm supposed to make and hopefully help the team out until Adam can get back out on the field.

    I think I'll know more after today. It's the first time I'm on the field with batting practice and taking grounders and fly balls. We'll see how it responds.

    They must have made two good relay throws, ... I felt like I just beat it, and I'm pleased the umpire got the call right.

    Whatever happened last year to propel us to the run that we made, it's really carried over to this year. Guys expect to win ball games and that's showing up in the plays we're making.

    I love to be able to drive down with my wife. She has Fridays off of class and we take the weekend so she can ride down with me and we get settled in our place. It gives me extra time to get out in the warm weather and get started.

    This type of hit in this setting is a dream come true, ... It was a moment that was too short-lived and I won't have an appreciation for it for a long time.

    It was definitely awkward being out there at shortstop. It was fun (and) exciting. I had a good time with it.

    Nobody is more surprised than I am. At the same time, I've been in favorable counts and gotten good pitches.

    We're going to see their guys. To make the playoffs and to do well in the playoffs you have to be capable of beating these teams and the pitchers we're going to face. Hopefully we put our best foot forward and try to keep the Wild Card lead.

    I'm a lot better, ... Hopefully if I can continue to improve on a daily basis as much as I did, I feel optimistic about my chances of playing again soon.

    Obviously, like most teams, the top of our order is where the strength is at, ... But any time we (at the bottom) can do something to help out, hopefully it takes a little pressure off those guys and maybe give us a couple more runs than we might not get otherwise.

    I'm trying to make my way around the diamond.

    It will just be a footnote, ... Then maybe we won't have to see it replayed for years and years and years.
