Little man
Newly five years old
Devil in your blue eyes,
Sly smile and infectious laugh
Sharing candy with me,
But not too many,
Made me happy
Made me laugh.
Watching you grow
Playing demolition derby
Or kickball with you and
Your shorts, tank top, and winter boots
How I see your dad and mom
In you and your sister
Friend and tormentor
Each to the other
Happy playing together
And testing the other –
Punch, hug, kick, and laugh.
Hey, Can I have some gum?!?
